They are one of the hottest bands about at the moment and they are fast becoming regular faces at Karbon. The Glasvegas boys where in on Saturday night for a few drinks and a bit of a boogie before heading off to Texas for this years SXSW music festival. They already have a good following in the states and I’m sure they’ll win even more fans on this trip.
Karbon Wednesday night resident Ross McMillan (the one on the right) has just dropped his latest mix tape, and it’s a killer. You can download it and get the full track listing from Ross’ website Here.
Particular highlights for me where the Baltimore club remix of R.E.M - Nightswimming and Bee Gees - Staying Alive
When Ross isn’t busy being one of the best disc jockeys in Glasgow he likes to relax by driving around town in his Range Rover listening to Jodeci.
Keep up the good work.
DJ Semtex was at Karbon last night and he smashed it, So hard in fact that he almost slept in and missed his flight back to London this morning. He made it to Glasgow airport about 30 seconds before they closed the check-in desk.
He’s now writing a letter to Santa to ask for a new alarm clock.
Semtex wasn’t the only London DJ having airport troubles this weekend. DJ Swerve was on the same flight to Glasgow as Semtex on Sunday night where he was supposed to be getting picked up to be driven to his gig in Dundee. Only problem was that the guy who was picking him up had gotten slightly confused and went to Edinburgh airport instead. So Swerve had to hang about the airport for nearly an hour waiting on his lift. Doh!
Mark Knight is Ministry of Sound’s most high profile resident and easily one of the best DJ/producers on the planet.
Marks summer mix of “Man With The Red Face” is quite possibly the biggest tune of the year and his recent track “Arena” is Karbon’s biggest tune of the past few months.
His own Toolroom Records label, which he started in 2004 has become a favorite with DJ’s across every genre of dance music. Aside from the aforementioned tracks he released, this year he released a “Toolroom Knights” compilation and spent the summer in Ibiza, hosting his Toolroom parties at Armin van Buurens “Armada” nights in amnesia. His recent party at the Amsterdam Dance Event was a huge success, causing major commotion as hundreds of clubbers queued for hours trying to get in.
It’s almost that time of year again when the T.V. is full of the usual Christmas movies. We’ve been talking in the office about Christmas movies that aren’t really Christmas movies and have decided that these are two of the best.
First up is Gremlins. This movie is set around christmas time in a small American town that becomes over run by mischievous monsters.
Next up is Home Alone. Another movie with a Christmas feel to it. Kid’s family go on holiday and leave him behind by mistake, he set’s up traps to fight off two burglars who are trying to rob his house.
The best Christmas movie of recent years, classic will ferrell.
Cleveland rapper Scott Mescudi aka Kid Cudi has exploded on the scene in the last few months.
He first surfaced around September with the release of a mixtape in collaboration with streetwear brand 10 Deep. This mixtape was all over the internet and caught the attention of none other than Kanye West. Click here to Download the Mixtape
Kanye quickly signed Cudi to his G.O.O.D. Music label and has been working closely with him ever since. He features on the track “Welcome to Heartbreak” from Kanye’s new album “808’s & Heartbreak”
Kid Cudi’s first single “Day and Night” has been a underground hit for a few months now and this remix from Italian house duo Crookers is killing it in the clubs right now.
DJ Semtex will be on the decks this sunday for a special DJ set alongside Lollipop residents Michael Charles, Illyus, and Status.
As well as being one of the countries top hip hop DJ’s Semtex is also the head of A&R at Def Jam UK and one of the biggest pioneers of hip hop music in the UK.
He is without doubt the busiest man on the scene at the moment, currently holding down shows on BBC 1Xtra, writing a daily blog, and interviewing the biggest names in hip hop for his youtube channel. He also finds time to tour relentlessly both as DJ for Dizzee Rascal and in his own right as a club DJ all over the world.
This guy really knows how to get the party started.
